University of North Florida Science and Humanities Building

Jacksonville, FL

University of North Florida | 118,000 SF | February 2012

The University of North Florida has been undergoing rapid development since the inauguration of the school's fifth president in 2003, John A. Delaney. One of the projects recently completed is the new Science and Humanities Building. The four-story building, which at approximately 118,000 square feet primarily serves as the hub for the Coastal Biology Department.

The facility provides classrooms, teaching labs, faculty research labs, and faculty offices. Classrooms are set up for traditional lecture-based teaching and as conference rooms to accommodate discussion groups. The rooms are equipped to support technology-based instruction.

The research labs are adaptive and flexible, allowing them to be easily reconfigured to accommodate changes in research emphasis. A vivarium provides care for animals that are used in research and teaching.

The project incorporates sustainable design principles with a goal of LEED Silver Certification and was completed in collaboration with our joint venture partner, Perkins+Will.
