Morgan Heart Hospital at Morton Plant

Clearwater, FL

BayCare Health System | 174,715 SF | 2007

Opened as part of Morton Plant Hospital's largest expansion in its history, Morgan Heart Hospital improves cardiac care in the Tampa Bay area and maintains its reputation as a national leader in the field. Each year, close to 700 open-heart surgeries, 2,500 interventional procedures and 2,300 diagnostic services are performed at the hospital. The facility has four surgical suites, four cardiac catheterization labs, two cardiac electrophysiology suites and 29 patient rooms.

Harvard Jolly worked closely with both the hospital's physicians and nurses to design each area of the new hospital to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of care.

All cardiology services are now integrated in a central location. Surgical suites, recovery rooms, patient rooms, testing facilities and waiting rooms are all connected so that patients, nurses and physicians are within close proximity. This design saves time and provides added convenience to patients and their families.

Each of the 21 private open-heart patient rooms at the hospital employs the universal care concept. This concept allows for the patient to be treated in the same room during each stage of recovery, rather than move from one area to another. Morgan Heart Hospital is the first hospital of its kind in the Tampa Bay area to utilize this model.

Additional elements of the design strive to provide patients and their families with the comforts of home while at the hospital. Each of the private rooms features wood flooring and many offer views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Also included are Wi-Fi, climate control, refrigerators, and sleeper chairs for the patient's family.
